Handwriters of the week!
Three times a week we do handwriting. Over the week we focus on letters which are formed the same way. This week we practiced a, d and g. Miss Stephen was so impressed at how neatly we presented our work. She found it very hard to find a Handwriter of the Day so she had to pick more than one. Below are pictures of this weeks best handwriting. Great work Room 4!
Summer Poem
Today Hunter recoded our poem of the week . Hunter took a photo of the poem from his book and then independently recorded himself reading it. Click the link below (make sure your volume is up) and have a listen to him reading it. You read it beautifully Hunter, well done!

Conducting a school survey
In the morning we conducted our statistics survey about transport to and from Riverlands School. We went in groups of 3 to each class and asked them which form of transport they use. Miss Stephen was so proud at how well we stood in front of a whole class of children and had turns talking. We even did a great job at filling out our tally charts. Tomorrow we need to put our results into bar graphs so we can compare our data. (You can click on a photo to enlarge it)

Art in Room 4
We are making an "about me" class quilt. Over the past week we have been filling in each section with something about us. Here are our table groups working hard! They are looking great and I cannot wait to put them all up on the wall.

Making Tally Charts
For the next week our mathematics focus is Statistics. Part of statistics is making a tally as an easier way to count out a set. We played a game called Sneaky Snake. We had to throw the dice and move the counter, we used a tally to count how many throws it took to reach the finish. At the end we had to summarise the results in the tally. Some of us noticed that it took people less rolls than others when we compared the charts.
Have a look at the photos below to see us working in pairs. We were very lucky to have the help of Mrs H-S and Mrs Holdaway as it was pretty tricky!
Room 4's Writing Wall
We are finally getting some work up in our walls.
We got to make name cards on Friday and throughout the term we will be adding more of our published writing to them.
Come and have a look at all our wonderfully published work.
Supporting Others
This term Riverlands School's Connecting Habbit is Supportive. We read the book Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister, which is about sharing and making friends. As a class we brainstormed all the ways that we can be supportive.

Buddy Class
Today we had Buddy Class. Our buddy class is Room 7 who are in Year 6. We had to complete a student search. It was pretty tricky for the Room 4 children to do independently so it was great having the help from our big buddies. Miss Stephen and Ms Stenson were impressed out how well we worked together. Have a look at the pictures to see the classes working together. We can't wait for our next Buddy Class time!

First Days of 2014
We have been spending lots of time writing and publishing our summer stories. We have been using the laptops, Ipads and paper to publish our stories - which made for a busy classroom.
Some children typed their stories onto the laptop and Ipads for the very first time, and I think they have done a fantastic job.
Below are some of the children's holiday stories, Jed and Jaedyn got to type their stories straight to the Blog using the Ipads, their stories are in the following posts.
Jaedyn's Motorbike
